My son Michael was diagnosed a month after Jordan and they spent a lot of time in hospital together. Michael is a year older than Jordan and they shared the same birthday and some good and bad times on the ward.
We were devastated when Jordan died and kept in touch with Andrea and Dave as we both raised money to build the new Teenage Cancer Unit at the RVI. When the unit was built Andrea decided she wanted to come out from under the umbrella of the Teenage Cancer Trust and become a standalone charity that would help children and young adults as well as teenagers going through cancer treatment.
During my time in the hospital I realised that cancer affects people from all walks of life and I saw the added financial burden that families face...many part time mums lost their jobs and so many families finished treatment with thousands and thousands of pounds of debt.
The TOMA fund aims to help make sure the children and young people have what they need to get them through and if that’s petrol money or bus fares to get a close family member to their bed side or the new bed they need at home we will do our best to get it.
Emergency finance or not, all kids want something to look forward to and so a big part of why I got involved was the idea of TOMA’s Treats. Kids and families get through treatment because of the camaraderie with others in the same boat and the TOMA fund builds on that by funding group treats such as the Medi Cinema and Panto’s.
Lastly I would have to say the other reason I got involved is because of Andrea.. I can tell you first hand not a second went by that she was not there with Jordan, encouraging him, making him smile. I don’t know how she or Dave got up and carried on after losing him but I do know there are hundreds of children and young people who are pleased they did............ because they make a difference.

The Toma Fund was set up by my sister Andrea in memory of her wonderful son, Jordan, and most recently, in memory of our beautiful niece, Sophie.
I totally support the aims of the Toma Fund knowing first hand myself afer also losing my own precious son, how financial hardship effects families of children with cancer and also in my case, long term illness & disabilities.
I am honoured to be given the opportunity to be a part of the Toma Fund and help others who are not only suffering but also worrying about how they will manage financially.

Having known Andrea, Dave, Jordan and Ellis for many years, I am delighted to be involved with the fantastic work of the Toma Fund.
My career has been centred around the financial and charity sector and, having been CEO of a local Children’s Charity for the past 4 years, I know only too well how essential the Toma Fund is.
Our aim is to make a real difference to children facing the toughest battle of their lives; if we can aid in their recovery or help their families through such a heartbreaking time then we have achieved our goal.
As a committed board of trustees and having an inspirational CEO like Andrea, the sky is our limit.
